Zi introduces latest eZiText™ enhancements, eZiTap™ input solution and eZiNet™ network-based platform in Asia-Pacific

New intelligent language features, combined with cutting edge network-based technology, offers the most user-friendly interface yet for Asia's texters

CommunicAsia - Singapore. (June 18, 2002) - Zi Corporation (NASDAQ: ZICA) (TSE: ZIC), a leading provider of intelligent interface solutions, announced today the Asia-Pacific availability of the latest version of its eZiText™ predictive input software. eZiText, which is available in a variety of Asia's alphabetic and ideographic languages, now includes advanced personalization and learning functionality. While exhibiting at CommunicAsia, the company also introduced Asia-Pacific versions of its new eZiTap™ input solution and eZiNet™ network-based platform.

"As mobile phone usage and text messaging continues to grow in the Asia-Pacific region, there is a strong need for user-driven content and efficient text input in the user's native language," said Dennis Wee, Asia-Pacific Director of Sales for Zi Corporation. "Zi recognizes that every user is unique, and how they like to use their device differs from the next person; with eZiText, eZiTap and eZiNet, users are provided a truly unique and personal texting experience."

Zi is demonstrating the advanced features of eZiText, and its new eZiTap input solution and eZiNet platform at booth 2G2-07 at CommunicAsia taking place at the Singapore Expo from June 18 - 21.

eZiText Makes Texting Easier

Zi Corporation is a global leader in the predictive text input space and currently offers its eZiText technology in over 39 languages and regional language dialects, including Asia's alphabetic languages such as Bahasa Indonesian, English, Korean, Malay, Thai and Vietnamese. An embedded predictive text input software, eZiText makes electronic devices more useable, user-friendly and personalized for the end-consumer by learning a person's usage patterns and behaviors. The company's more than 60 licensing agreements include Asian and European Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) such as Sony-Ericsson, Alcatel, Samsung, LG Electronics, Kyocera and Sewon, to name a few. Zi also partners with the industry's leading wireless solutions providers such as QUALCOMM BREW and Openwave, integrating eZiText deeply into partner platforms to provide quick time-to-market solutions which increase the usability of all text input fields and applications.

This track record, combined with the launch of Zi's latest version of eZiText for Asia-Pacific languages, positions the company at the forefront of the predictive text input market for text messaging, a fast-growing means of mobile communication via hand-held devices. Now the device will not only offer input in the user's native language, but will learn from a person's usage patterns and behaviors and access words from various sources within the device such as personalized user-created dictionaries and the user's phone book.

The eZiTap™ Input Solution: Ideal for Asia's Multi-Tappers

In addition to the advanced personalization and learning functionality now available in eZiText, Zi has added a powerful new input solution to its offering - eZiTap. eZiTap is ideal for multi-tap users who like to create their own vocabulary while enjoying the benefits of prediction to make the experience more efficient. Combining learning and personalization with a multi-tap environment, eZiTap also allows users to enter their own words and texting shortcuts into a personal dictionary, including 2nite (tonight), lol (laughing out loud), cul8r (see you later), or anything else they can imagine, and have these words predicted for future use. With eZiTap, over 50 additional languages are accessible for texting. Manufacturers can now differentiate devices by offering easy-to-use texting for over 70 countries and address device memory constraints by implementing a solution with minimal memory requirements.

eZiText's added functionality and the new eZiTap input solution are now available for license.

eZiNet - bridging the device to the network

Zi's new eZiNet network-based platform provides wireless device manufacturers and operators the ability to give users access to information beyond what is stored on the device, including rich content and data that may be stored on networks and across applications, despite the memory restrictions of the device. Users will be able to easily access the information and applications they desire on a small form factor device, without having to navigate complex menus and/or irrelevant information. The first eZiNet application module released by Zi Corporation is MyLingo™, which provides users with vocabulary additions that can be downloaded quickly and easily to wireless devices.
