eZiText™ enables easier short messaging in German

Calgary, AB (September 20, 2000) - Consumers in Germany will soon be able to send short messages quickly and easily with eZiText™ enabled phones. Zi Corporation’s (NASDAQ: ZICA) (TSE: ZIC) predictive text input solution will be embedded in Standard Telecom’s NXG 9000 and NXG 9100 GSM mobile phones, incorporating eZiText™ in both English and German.

"Sending a short message on a limited keypad is difficult and the task becomes even more complex in the German language, with words that are 30 per cent longer than English," says Gary Kovacs, senior vice president, Marketing and Sales, Zi Corporation. "Manufacturers need the predictive capability of eZiText™ to provide the intuitive experience consumers demand."

In addition to German, Standard Telecom has licensed eZiText™ in 23 other languages for use in any cellular phones or PDAs they manufacture. The initial implementation schedule will see eZiText™ incorporated into two GSM phones. Standard Telecom is also planning to develop a CDMA handset incorporating Zi’s predictive language software.

"eZiText™ is the language solution we trust to advance our product line into the global marketplace," said Hyung Soon Lim, vice president, Research and Development Centre, Standard Telecom. "Wherever we choose to export, Zi has the language expertise we need and Zi has development centres to support Korean manufacturers."

Standard Telecom Co., Ltd, designs and manufactures information and communication equipment such as pagers, GSM and CDMA mobile phones.
